Shadows on subjects
As nature casts a shadow against the light, the way we sense the space where we stand can change. This is why it is ever so important to get a real sense of a space by being there at different times of the day whenever possible. The historic details may look and feel differently when a shadow is cast upon them.
The feelings of being comfortable is a personal feeling within the ultra modern clean lines of a new house or the 150 year old crooked classic columnssteeped in our own tea of history within ourselves.
When it comes to understanding buildings, a physical sense of touch stays in our memory like no other sense. Knowing what soil feels like between your fingers and toes, or roughness of wood grain and smoothness of granite draws in other feelings of warmth and cold. Shadows can have a similar effect in your mind about how a physical material appears to look and then feel.
This sense of touch together with shadows on the physical structures mesh in our minds, transforming our feelings as those shadows naturally change during the day. This is yet another reason to consciously be in the present when standing or sitting in a space, acknowledging your sense of where you are and how the shadows or lack of thereof effect how you feel.
